Influencing policy | Clinks member - Unlock
The voluntary sector working in criminal justice has extensive knowledge and experience that is a vital tool for effectively advocating and bringing about tangible changes in the criminal justice system.
This case study compliments an online recording of Unlock’s expert seminar on its strategy for influencing policy. It takes a closer look at Unlock’s ‘strategic litigation’ approach i.e. using the law to create change. The example in this case study is that of a legal challenge brought against the government for its criminal record disclosure regime that in turn led to significant changes, and which will continue to improve the lives of thousands.
This work is part of Clinks’ Stronger voice project, a three-year project which aims to help the voluntary sector working in criminal justice develop a unified and influential voice, at both a national and regional level. The project is funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales, as part of their wider Criminal Justice Grant Programme. For more information about the programme please click here.
