Join ClinksThe charity Changes provides healthcare in the community, including supported housing, for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, including ex-offenders. The award-winning Community Interest Company, Changes UK, provides the recovery community with the skills and experience required, through a range of social enterprises at Recovery Central, to achieve independence. This dual model helps people in Abstinence-Based Recovery to re-build their lives through volunteering, training and employment, within a therapeutic framework. We challenge the stigma of addiction and the prejudice towards the recovery community. Abstinence-Based Recovery is not just about stopping negative behaviour, it is also about making a positive contribution and engaging with society. At Recovery Central, we demonstrate that, with the right support, people do recover and can be an asset to society, not a burden.

Supporting information
We deliver holistic recovery and rehabilitation services in areas that are characterised by low incomes and high levels of deprivation, where our Peer Mentors support people in recovery, including ex-offenders, towards positive outcomes. We have just opened Recovery Central in Birmingham as a multi-purpose venue, including;
• A one-stop-shop for the recovery community,
• An OCN accredited training centre,
• A conference centre, including hospitality and catering,
• A community centre, with a café (and Birmingham's first 'dry' restaurant),
• An arts centre, with a performance space,
• And a hub of creative social enterprise business activity where the recovery community works.
Our Social Return on Investment has been calculated at a ratio of 1:14.58, i.e. for every £1.00 invested in Changes UK there is a positive social impact of £14.58. Although the real value to the recovery community, friends and families, the local community and to society is invaluable.
