The charity Changes provides healthcare in the community, including supported housing, for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, including ex-offenders. The award-winning Community Interest Company, Changes UK, provides the recovery community with the skills and experience required, through a range of social enterprises at Recovery Central, to achieve independence. This dual model helps people in Abstinence-Based Recovery to re-build their lives through volunteering, training and employment, within a therapeutic framework. We challenge the stigma of addiction and the prejudice towards the recovery community. Abstinence-Based Recovery is not just about stopping negative behaviour, it is also about making a positive contribution and engaging with society. At Recovery Central, we demonstrate that, with the right support, people do recover and can be an asset to society, not a burden.
