Substance Use Practitioner - HMP Belmarsh
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Substance Use Practitioner to join our team at HMP Belmarsh, supporting positive change and making a lasting impact.
The role includes Patient Engagement and Health Promotion throughout the wider Healthcare service in Belmarsh.
The Role
As a Substance Use Practitioner you will be providing harm reduction to those with substance use issues and supporting in their recovery through relapse prevention and care planning.
You will also act as an advocate for these service users, signposting and referring to the necessary agencies in order to support them in their recovery holistically.
As Patient Engagement Lead, you will ensure the patient voice and experience is heard and shared and continuously look for ways to enhance the development of patient engagement.
You will work closely with patients, healthcare and prison colleagues to raise awareness of important health topics and ensure the patient is at the centre of service delivery.
This role will support the prime provider PPG (Practice Plus Group) Patient Engagement National Lead to implement and embed the Patient Engagement Strategy.
You will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Health Champions and Peer supporters.
About You
To join us as a Substance Use Practitioner at HMP Belmarsh, you will need:
- Relevant experience of working in health and social care, ideally within the field of problematic substance use, mental health or another comparable field.
- Committed to patient care and first-class service provision.
- Evidence of effective partnership working and the ability to network for the benefit of the client and service.
- Evidence of managing a busy caseload or tasks and excellent organisational skills.
- To be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel and be familiar with database management systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Have an understanding of complex issues and health priorities presented by people entering custody.
- Determined, with a drive to succeed and a willingness to learn.
- Passionate and enthusiastic about making a real difference to the lives of people we support
This role will be Monday- Friday (every other Friday off) with occasional Saturday working as part of a rota.
