CLINKS NEWS: help women and their families get their voices heard
We want to hear from you about your experiences on how supporting women in contact with the criminal justice system to engage with their families can lower recidivism, aid rehabilitation and assist in addressing intergenerational crime. Clinks is a member of Lord Farmer's expert group and is leading the call for evidence for his independent review. We want to know what works and what doesn't in maintaining and building relationships between women in contact with the criminal justice system and their families and friends. There are many ways to respond. We are particularly interested in hearing from women who have lived experience of the criminal justice system and their families and friends. The deadline for submissions is 7th November. Find out more here

The chair for the group and its secretariat is provided by Clinks. CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: Unlocked graduates begin work
Over 100 graduates and career-changers started work as prison officers this month as part of the Unlocked leadership programme, which sees successful applicants work on the prison frontline for at least two years. Nearly 1000 applicants competed for the places. Applicants were assessed on key skills such as leadership and resilience, as well as a commitment to helping prisoners avoid reoffending. Jack, a University of Oxford graduate who has joined the scheme said, “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to work in a prison. It’s not a career I would ever have considered before, but once I’d learnt a bit more about the impact you can have I was hooked on the idea. This is definitely a job where I feel I can make a real difference!” Find out more here
CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: funding sustainable business

CLINKS MEMBER'S NEWS: charity awards

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: prison education
The Ministry of Justice is commissioning new prison education contracts. Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) contracts come to an end in prisons in 2019, making way for a new system of education commissioning. Prisons are being given increased flexibility and control over education budgets and the ability to commission a wide range of provision. The changes to commissioning present opportunities for a wide range of organisations - including the voluntary sector - to get involved in delivering education services in prison. FUNDING: disadvantaged women and girls
The Tampon Tax Community Fund has grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 available for a duration of up to 12 months. The fund aims to support women and girls who are most marginalised to overcome barriers that prevent them from fulfilling their potential. UK-based organisations with a local or community reach can apply. Groups should visit their local community foundation website for further details about the eligibility requirements of the scheme in their area. The deadline to apply is 26th October. Find out more here
FUNDING: end sexual harassment
Grants of up to £100,000 are available through the Justice and Equality Fund’s ‘Now’s the Time’ large grants programme. The programme aims to amplify the voices of individuals and groups who are calling for an end to sexual harassment and abuse in their workplaces and in their communities. It is asking organisations to apply by answering the question: What would you do towards ending sexual harassment in work places and in communities? The deadline for application is 14th December.
