Notes from the RR3 special interest group on effective mentoring through the gate
This Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) Special Interest Group explored how to provide effective mentoring for men and women resettling in the community after a prison sentence. It considered the role and contribution of the voluntary sector in pioneering this approach and the impact of the current commissioning and contracting arrangements and funding on the sector’s ability to deliver effective mentoring. It also looked at what is happening to mentoring through the gate, the challenges and barriers to effective delivery and consistent outcomes. The group made recommendations to the sector, the Ministry of Justice and other relevant parties.
It was sponsored by Matt Wall, RR3 member and National Secretary of the Community Chaplaincy Association.
