Clinks response to the Transforming management of young adults in custody consultation
Clinks has responded to a Ministry of Justice consultation on proposals to change the management of young adults in custody, most notably moving them from Youth Offender Institutions into mixed institutions.
We recommend that a comprehensive approach to young adults in the criminal justice system, as championed by the Transition to Adulthood alliance, should be developed as a precursor to engagement and support for these proposals from the voluntary sector working the criminal justice system. This should include a much stronger business case for the rehabilitative benefits and practical details of how the new arrangements would operate both within custodial institutions and in the community.
