Join ClinksThe Libertie Project works with offenders, ex-offenders and those at risk of offending in the Highlands of Scotland. We use creativity as a therapeutic medium to engage with hard to reach individuals, develop positive working relationships, improve mental health and well being, develop pre-employability skills, transition to employment and reduce offending behaviour.
We work in partnership both inside prison, in the community with criminal justice social work and in outreach locations. All our workshops are tailor made interventions using principles of forensic occupational therapy to develop the foundation blocks that are needed to succeed and improve life chances.
We have specific ares of expertise in substance misuse, repeat offenders with chaotic lifestyles, homelessness and working with women offenders to develop alternatives to custodial sentences.
We sell artisan products made by offenders via prison or community based work programmes following specific training.

Supporting information
We have a high rate of success in getting hard to reach individuals to engage with services. With substance misuse offenders the rates of re-offending locally within 24 hours of release from prison without any therapuetic intervention were as high as 70%. When offenders were offered community based sentences, the re-offending rate dropped to 50% but when The Libertie Project included a bolt on creative workshops to community interventions, the re-offending rates dropped to between 10-20%. These figures were improved further when we offered ongoing support after any sentence had finished.
With the offenders that we have engaged with and supported over an extended period, using our transition towards employment model, around 80% have gone on to gain employment, start volunteering or enter training/education.
As an organisation we utilise a creative approach to rehabilitation and pioneer new community approaches that put the offenders needs central to tailor making transition plans.
