Supporting information
Trailblazers was set up in 1998 and was the first prison-based mentoring charity in England to provide “through the gate” support to young offenders by working with them for up to six months whilst in prison and up to nine months upon release.
We pair young offenders (mentees) aged 18-25 with carefully selected and trained volunteer adult mentors from all walks of life (we currently have 189 volunteer mentors). Weekly sessions take place inside the prison and are articulated through six unique Toolsets that address both behavioural and practical issues, inspire young offenders to change their attitude and behaviour, supporting them to become positive members of society and achieve their potential without resorting to crime. Mentors continue to provide support on a fortnightly basis once the mentee is released into the community. Many young offenders have good intentions for their release but lack the support they need to effectively change their thinking and attitude.
