A reoffending study conducted by the Ministry of Justice’s Justice Data Lab returned a 29% reoffending rate for Family Man graduates, compared to a 42% rate for a matched control group (p=0.101). A second Justice Data Lab study analysing a much larger sample of Family Man graduates is underway and should be published by July 2013.
Central to the efficacy of Family Man and Fathers Inside are the programmes’ role in coordinating a diverse range of agencies to provide holistic, tailored support. Families are among the most powerful motivating factors for change and the programmes bring the offender, their family and agencies together throughout the course to develop a targeted, realistic resettlement plan and begin accessing the support services required.
This structure is extremely conducive to working within consortia and has proved highly effective in engaging offenders more resistant to traditional support pathways.
