CLINKS EVENT: Navigating the criminal justice system
09:30, 26 September | online | from £75
Are you new to working or volunteering in the criminal justice system? Do you have volunteers or staff members who want to increase their understanding of the criminal justice system? The criminal justice system can be quite daunting to understand because of both its size and complexity. This three-hour workshop aims to increase awareness of and provide opportunity for voluntary sector staff and volunteers to explore and discuss how the criminal justice system is organised, the complexities within it, and how it works. Book your place here
MEMBER FOCUS: Nornir
An innovative social enterprise working within the Third Sector since 2001. The main objective of the work Nornir undertakes is to build the capacity within voluntary and community groups, helping them to become more business oriented in way they develop and deliver their work.
Key to this is the ability to build networks of smaller organisation. Often small and micro organisations do not have the capacity to have specific skills and dedicated resources such as an IT department. Through collaboration, organisations and individuals can offer their services to each other, thereby bringing a wider base of experts. Find out more about Nornir here
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: Lay magistrates - great equalisers or arcane institution?
The latest Podcast by Transform Justice takes a critical look at Lay magistrates.
England and Wales is one of a tiny number of jurisdictions worldwide in which lay people sit in judgement of their peers. Some argue that magistrates play a vital role bridging the courtroom and the community. But does this work in practice?
In this episode our hosts are joined by Robin Fenwick, former magistrate, and Dr Kate Leader, senior lecturer at Queen Mary University. They discuss why we have magistrates, what powers they possess, and what it's like to be a magistrate behind the scenes. Listen to the Transform Justice Podcast here
