CLINKS EVENT: Early release and homelessness
What does the London voluntary sector need to know and what can it do?
Clinks and Homeless Link are working together in partnership to deliver this event [5 September, 12:30 - 14:00, online, free] which will outline the new SDS40 policy that the Government has introduced and the impact that it will have on the homelessness and wider voluntary sector and people leaving prison over the coming months. Find out more and book your place here
MEMBER FOCUS: InHouse Records CIC
InHouse Records is a record label for change focusing on what's strong and not what's wrong. InHouse Records provides music education and workshops, inside of UK Prisons, as a post-release programme and to those not in education, employment or training by using the creativity of music to express feelings that are hard to communicate.
Using music to create safe and enabling environments, they work to increase the network of their learners by modelling dialogic skills that have been missing in their lives by presenting learners with the opportunity to spiral into healthier networks upon release and ultimately to reduce the chances of reoffending. CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: Crime resolution tracker
Which police forces make the best use of the lower gears of the criminal justice system?
Transform Justice has updated its annual crime resolution tracker. This interactive tool compares police forces on their use of out-of-court resolutions versus charges for children, adults, and overall. Cautions, community resolutions, and deferred prosecution are all effective options in preventing reoffending and addressing the needs of victims. See the 2024 ranking and explore by police force here.
CLINKS MEMBER’S NEWS: "Inspired Inside" get their voices out
In a UK first, men in HMP Barlinnie (Glasgow) are producing their own podcast called "Inspired Inside", with selected interviews being broadcast externally. The podcast is the latest project delivered by writer Mark MacNicol, creator of the prison-based drama therapy programme 4UM Theatre. The first episode is now available on YouTube. Please show your support by watching and subscribing.
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: MAGNIFY an original work by Kestrel actors
Over just two short weeks, the Kestrel Theatre Company will collaborate with playwright Simon Longman (Paines Plough, Royal Court) to devise and perform a semi-improvised original piece at the New Diorama Theatre [31 August, Matinée at 14:00; Evening performance at 19:00 with cast Q&A, tickets £8 - £14]. These are all men who were introduced to theatre while incarcerated, or at risk of entering the CJS.
This is part of the Kestrel Theatre Company commitment to providing meaningful creative pathways and employment opportunities to the men they work with. All are paid as professional actors for their participation. Please support the collaboration and the performers. If you want to attend but cannot afford a ticket, please contact Kestrel

CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: Healing community harm
Why me?, along with the rest of the UK, were deeply affected by the Southport stabbings at the end of last month, where 3 children were killed and 10 people were injured. Islamophobic and racist violence spread across the country.
Like many others, Why Me? considered how restorative practice could be used to repair some of the harm, and their September forum is dedicated to this conversation. You are invited to join and share ideas about how the restorative community can respond [11 September, 12:00 -13:00, online, free]. Please bring your thoughts on how Restorative Justice could be used to address the harm caused, rebuild relationships, give communities a voice and establish a path forwards. Please share any plans you have, or progress that has been made in your area, or opportunities for restorative work. Book your place here
CLINKS MEMBER’S EVENT: Domestic crime and justice summit
PLIAS Resettlement is co-hosting its first Domestic Homicide Review (DHR), Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) & Criminal Justice Summit [29 November, 09:30 - 17:30, W12 Conferences, London, £22.50 – £150]. This event will showcase topics and themes that explore various dynamics. The Summit aims to ensure the active participation of African, Caribbean, and minoritised women in DHRs, promoting inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and effective responses to domestic violence. Find out more and book here
CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Temporary measures to ease prison capacity pressure
The government has announced that Operation Early Dawn, a temporary measure to manage pressures in prisons, has been reactivated to manage prison capacity pressures in the north of England. This measure, taken in response to recent capacity issues and rioting, will mean that people are only summoned to court when a prison cell is available. The measure will apply in regions including the North East, Yorkshire, and Manchester and will be monitored and adjusted accordingly. Learn more here.
