Early Release and Homelessness: What does the London voluntary sector need to know and what can it do?
12:30, 5 September | online | free
Clinks and Homeless Link are working together in partnership to deliver this online event which will outline the new SDS40 policy that the Government has introduced. The event will look at the impact the policy will have on homelessness, the wider voluntary sector, and people leaving prison over the coming months.
Join us to hear the latest updates regarding this policy and hear from our voluntary sector coordinator working at HMP Isis share details on what is happening from a prison perspective. Our London Development Officer will also explore the services and support available. We will also have Jeremy White from Homeless Link lead the discussion on how homelessness services can work in partnership with statutory and other voluntary agencies in London to respond to this emerging situation. NCJAA Writing Development Workshop: Reflective Writing
10:00, 10 September | online | free
In a practical and interactive two-and-a-half-hour workshop, we will explore three different theoretical models of reflective practice and use discussion and writing exercises to evaluate which ones we find most useful. By the end of the workshop, you will be equipped with the tools you need to use reflective practice in your day-to-day role.
In the fast-changing world of the voluntary sector, as we constantly react to new challenges, it often feels as if there is no time for reflective practice.
Looking back, analysing what we did well or badly in the past, and then using this knowledge to prepare us for the future, should underpin everything we do. It strengthens our working practices, keeping us open, responsive, and adaptable. It gives us the chance to celebrate our successes and learn from our mistakes. It nourishes our professional life and helps us to thrive.
Reflective practice is a personal exploration of the past. But it is also a way of understanding how to work more effectively with our colleagues in a collaborative and constructive way, sharing difficulties and anxieties.
If you found an incident stressful or upsetting, why was that? How did the people around you react? Could you have acted differently, and would that have changed the outcome for you, your client or those you work with? In the light of what happened, should your organisation review its systems or processes? Book your place here
Women’s Network Forum: probation through a gendered lens
10:00, 17 September | online | free
Our quarterly Women’s Network Forums, hosted in partnership with Agenda, provide support, information and networking opportunities to those working with women in contact with the criminal justice system. They also provide updates on policy, member activity and host speakers on relevant topics. The forums provide an opportunity to gather feedback and key issues raised by organisations working with women in contact with the criminal justice system, enabling Clinks to reflect these to national government at Reducing Reoffending Third Sector Advisory Group (RR3) meetings.
We have received feedback from Women’s Network members that the changes introduced through the probation reset policy are negatively impacting women. This meeting will focus on the issue of probation through a gendered lens with the aim of seeking to build understanding of what the current barriers are to effective probation arrangements for women. The Labour Party manifesto included a commitment to carry out a review of probation governance and in preparation for responding to any consultation on this proposed review we want to hear from members about how probation for women can be improved.
The meeting will include presentations on current probation arrangements for women, details of proposed review (if available) and facilitated small group discussions.
If you are a senior leader or a manager who has expertise to contribute to discussion of these issues, please come along and share your views. Book your place here
