Members of our service user involvement managers’ network have told us that rewarding people appropriately for their involvement is a key challenge for you. This can be especially difficult if they are receiving benefits, which may make paying them for their time more complicated.
This training will provide you with all you need to know to pay or reward people for involvement without risking their benefits.
The course will cover:
· Current benefits system rules and guidance on payments
· Permitted payments and covering expenses
· How to support people claiming benefits
· Alternative ways to reward people for involvement
· Developing a payment policy and approach
· Your questions and challenges
Delegates will have the opportunity to share your experiences, ideas and what has or hasn’t worked for your service users; and for an individual surgery with the trainer to discuss your questions and receive specific advice.
We will also hear from local organisation Birmingham Mind and current/former service users, about their project supporting people with complex needs from involvement into employment, and how they tailor their payment and reward offers to people at different stages of involvement.
