This two day programme is designed to offer emerging managers a high-energy introduction to their role as managers. The programme covers such areas as developing people, managing for performance and delegation. Learning takes place through group activities, exploration of theory and reflection on group activities.
Programme Structure
- the programme emphasises the roles and responsibilities you have as a team manager as opposed to a team member
- it draws on different learning experiences: case studies, reflection, and practical application
- it has a strong basis in contemporary management theory
- it emphasises a behaviour based model of feedback, and participants will practice giving and receiving feedback
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- identify the common pitfalls associated with the transition from team member to team manager
- understand their roles and responsibilities as a manager
- provide more effective direction and support to individuals and teams
- use effective communication to ensure clarity of expectations with others
- give and receive constructive feedback
- learn how to manage urgent and important tasks in order to be effective in their role
- recognise the manager’s role in managing performance and use a variety of methods to promote and encourage effective performance
- address poor performance quickly and effectively using a structured approach, and successfully respond to and manage reactions
- delegate authority at the appropriate level
