The Justice Select Committee have launched an inquiry into women in prison. It seeks to understand the progress made over the past 10 years to address female offending and reduce the number of women in custody. It is also looking to understand how well women’s needs are met in custody.
Clinks are responding to the consultation and are holding this event to inform our response. We really want to hear from voluntary organisations that work with or on behalf of women in contact with the criminal justice system. Please do sign up and let us know what you think.
There are a total of 11 questions and they cover issues including levels of self-harm in the female custodial estate, progress made towards the Residential Women’s Centres and what has been done to reduce the use of short term prison sentence for women.
If you are unable to attend, please contact Nicola.drinkwater@clinks.org to feed into our response.
