2MakeIt has a successful track record of delivering rehabilitative music programmes with prisoners and ex-prisoners. Following consultation with prisoners, prison staff, academics, other charities and supporters, we are developing new programmes to meet a need for creativity in prisons. We provide a more flexible approach to develop creative programmes alongside prisoners and prison staff to respond more directly to local needs to enable prisoners 2MakeIt in an environment which is both rehabilitative and creative. A key component involves establishing relationships with charity staff delivering programmes which are aimed at increasing prisoners’ confidence, self-esteem and ability to work with others through a creative environment to aid rehabilitation. Programme delivery depends on the identified needs of the prison and could include activities from the visual arts to music or creative writing. Where possible the relationships will continue post-release to aid resettlement.
