2makeit helps in prisoner and ex-prisoner rehabilitation by providing opportunities for creative expression through music and the arts. Our programmes aim to increase confidence, self-esteem and ability to work with others via a creative environment. Our work continues in the community: this can be just ‘being there’ for a conversation when needed, continuing creative activities or individual and peer mentoring. Current prison projects include choirs, drum workshops, beat mixing, art and poetry plus group work and 121 mentoring in the community. However, because of the Covid-19 crisis we have had to pause participatory work in prisons, adapt our support work in the community and offer in-cell activities. With social enterprise partner, Pictora, 2makeit has developed 2019 art project, Made Visible, to take remote creative activities into prisons and community. We have also created ‘Songbird’, an in-cell songwriting project, offering opportunities to maintain connections with families.
