The aim of Kyra – Women’s Project is to provide a safe women-only inclusive environment where all women can receive support and advice to make decisions about their lives. The centre is available to all women in York. This includes women who have experience of the Criminal Justice System and women who feel vulnerable and at risk. Kyra- Women’s Project will benefit not only women but also their families and local community.
We provide a range of support services. These include an informal drop-in centre staffed with support services available. We also provide motivational encouragement for women in terms of goal setting and practical problem solving. We train our volunteers to provide mentoring and befriending support. This could include, when necessary, accompanying them to meetings outside of the centre. Through a range of creative activities, art, music, design we aim to provide an environment where women support each other and in turn work as Volunteers in the centre.
