CLINKS NEWS: probation reform announcement
The Ministry of Justice has published the response to its consultation on the future of probation services. In a blog, Policy Manager Nicola Drinkwater has highlighted five things voluntary organisations in the criminal justice system need to know. Anne Fox, Chief Executive Officer, said "It is extremely welcome to see the Ministry of Justice accept our recommendations to simplify probation and reconsider contracting out. This is a real opportunity to ensure the effective use of resources towards getting people the support they need to stop offending and lead fulfilling lives, with voluntary organisations delivering vital support alongside well-funded services.” Read the blog here

We have published the fifth in a series of blogs to give a snap-shot of the key trends and issues our State of the sector research uncovered, as well as what we think needs to change for the challenges organisations are experiencing to be addressed. You can now download a summary of our State of the sector 2018 report, including the key findings, and the commitments we will be focussing on over the coming year. Read the blog here

CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: culture and sport initiatives
The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee has published Changing Lives: the social impact of participation in culture and sport. It finds that opportunities to reap major benefits in criminal justice, education and health are being missed by the failure of the government to recognise and harness social impact. We are pleased to see the report recognise the important role of arts organisations for supporting people on their desistance journey. It recommends a review into arts and criminal justice and funding for sports and culture initiatives delivered by community organisations. We are delighted to see our joint submission with National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance referenced in the final report. Find out more here
