Jon is the seat holder for education, reflecting his role as Chief Executive of Prisoners’ Education Trust (PET). PET provides access to distance learning courses and related advice and guidance to people in prison and works to promote and improve prison education. In this role Jon writes and speaks regularly on prison education and related issues. He has been a member of HMPPS’s Higher Education Working Group and the Ministry of Justice’s Prison Education Expert Panel and wrote a review of the evidence on prison education for the Clinks Evidence Library.
Jon has worked in the criminal justice voluntary sector for nearly 25 years. He joined PET in April 2021, having previously worked at the Magistrates’ Association, the Restorative Justice Council, the Police Foundation, the Criminal Justice Alliance, the Fawcett Society and Nacro. Jon has also been a member of the Victims’ Commissioner Advisory Group and the London Victims’ Board, a member of the Commission on Crime and Problem Gambling, and a governor of a London primary school.
