You will also provide some of the facilities support services during your shift to ensure that Hope Street meets all the required health and safety standards in terms of cleanliness and hygiene, fire safety and maintenance reporting.
You’ll make sure you’re fully informed before the day team leave at the end of the evening shift and provide a thorough handover when they arrive again in the morning.
You’ll make sure comprehensive and accurate records are kept on our management system and get involved with supporting the women during night time activities, such as movie night, karaoke, games night and more.
This post is restricted to women due to the nature of the role. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies.
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week (0.9 of FTE). Covering 10–12-hour shifts, between the times of 20:00 and 08:00 across 7 days, on a rolling shift pattern to include weekends and bank holidays.
Who we are
One Small Thing was founded in 2014 by prison philanthropist Lady Edwina Grosvenor, in response to the unacceptable levels of suicide, self-harm and violence within women’s prisons in England, with the aim of achieving wholesale system change across the justice system, one small thing at a time.
Our name reflects the value of those small things – empathy, compassion, respect – and their combined power to make a big difference to the individual - and to society as a whole.
Hope Street is an exciting, brand-new, purpose-built residential community-based service, designed in collaboration with women, for justice-involved women and their children in Hampshire.
Trauma-informed by design, it will offer a safe and supportive environment where women and their children can access education, practical and therapeutic support and activities that build confidence, self-esteem and skills, and provide the opportunity to build a fulfilling and happy life and play a meaningful role within society.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact for women during the night for any issues they may be experiencing and ensure that they are given comfort and reassurance and assistance from external agencies where necessary such as a paramedic if there is a health concern.
- Ensure that any safeguarding plans in place are followed and updates are entered on the Case Management System.
- Carry out regular checks around the Hope Street site during the night and intervene where necessary to respond to any conflict between residents in the flats and any disturbances, such as TVs or music playing too loudly.
- Provide emotional support to women who have been going through detox or are isolating due to ill health in the private assessment and treatment bedrooms in the Hub.
- Participate in the regular schedule of housekeeping duties to ensure that the communal areas of Hope Street are maintained.
- Provide additional support to the Night Safety Workers in the event of any threats to the safety of Hope Street from external factors during the night.
- Support the operational team in ‘turning around’ residents’ accommodation i.e., cleaning, clearing and resetting bed linen etc.
- Support the residents to keep the hub and community clean and tidy, role modelling and providing advice and guidance on key life skills such as cleaning.
- Participate in regular handover meetings to ensure that any concerns identified during the night are passed to the day team so that any actions or support required is implemented.
