Building Recovery in Communities Worker - Barnsley
Barnsley Recovery Steps is an integrated drug and alcohol recovery service which provides advice, support and structured treatment for individuals around drug and alcohol related issues.
This role will be an integral member of a dynamic team delivering support and initiatives in the local areas to establish visible recovery.
This role will use a range of interventions to work with individuals with a strong recovery focus to build sustainable recovery in local communities. you will be expected to promote and encourage peers to be involved in the shaping of the service. Supporting clients into training, education and employment and helping to develop and deliver a range of group work and 1:1 interventions.
Main duties and responsibilities:
To develop partnerships in local communities to help our clients build sustainable recovery in their local area.
Delivering a robust and varied combination of recovery initiatives such as access to our recovery hub, mutual aid, local community based support groups and one-one support.
To be proactive and use information systems and informal discussions with colleagues to identify service users who would be suitable to work with the BRiC team and support their peers to enter recovery.
Use a range of recommended interventions to promote engagement, encourage self-esteem, well-being and enhanced motivation to support service users to move forward in their recovery journey.
Support and promote local mutual aid groups and SMART recovery programmes across Barnsley and relevant locality, including supporting service users to engage and remain engaged with NA, AA etc
Forge strong links with communities and services operating in the Barnsley and relevant locality area to attract opportunities for the client group, including Employment, Training and Education.
Engaging local businesses to support events and functions through sponsorship, fundraising etc
Promote Barnsley Recovery Steps within local BAME communities and provide learning and education to hard to engage populations
Engagement with local further education centres to promote awareness and also develop links and opportunities for service users
Supervise volunteers based at the Mclintock Building with the support of the volunteer coordinators.
Work with users and former users of the service in creating and developing sustainable community enterprise initiatives.
Identify and support ‘Recovery Peers’ and communities to contagiously promote the benefits of recovery.
Identify and offer solutions for breaking down barriers between the client group and the wider community.
Stay up to date with emerging trends, best practices and how other organisation’s and companies are using them, so that the service can continue to be an early adopter of new initiatives.
Attend staff and other meetings as required.

Person Specification - Essential criteria:
Sound knowledge and experience in supporting clients to access local services to aid recovery.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting drug/alcohol users
Good communication skills, displaying empathy and a non-judgemental attitude
Experience of delivering 1-1 support
Knowledge of completing assessments including risk assessments
Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing substance misusers
Ability to organise own workload in response to supervision
Good case notes and reports writing skills
Ability to work flexibly including late nights and weekends when required

Person Specification – Desirable criteria:
NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care or above or equivalent
Experience in using Systmone database
