Organisational support offered
The Bright Ideas Partnership provides support and advice to charities. This includes grant fundraising support (including the Big Lottery Fund), organisational reviews, external evaluations and mentoring support to fundraisers/project staff. Bright Ideas has two experienced directors at its helm, Sarah Boardman and Jo Ryan, with a small team of associates providing support where needed.
Since we began in 2006, we have worked with over 80 organisations, including many criminal justice charities, for example, Carney’s Community, Addaction, Spark Inside and Latin American Women’s Aid. We have also undertaken external evaluations for several criminal justice charities, include the Out4Good project (a supported housing project for young people leaving prison) and Victim Support. In addition, Jo Ryan is Vice-Chair of Women in Prison and has a Masters in Criminology.
Over the last 3 years, we have raised around £8 million, primarily for small charities (those with a turnover below £500,000). On average, for every £1 invested in our fundraising support, we raise £40.92 in grants/funding. We also have a 96% success rate at second stage bids to the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities Fund; in our 12-year history we have raised almost £8m through this funding stream.
Here is what our clients say about us:
“When we first worked with Bright Ideas we literally had a few hundred pounds in the bank, no paid staff, no premises and no future. Now we have 25 staff, three local projects, some ground-breaking research, we own a building (debt free) and have a turnover of around £700,000 per year. We’ve secured four Reaching Communities grants from BIG Lottery with Bright Ideas support. Justlife is unrecognisable now to what it was when we started working with Bright Ideas.”
Gary Bishop, CEO Justlife
“Thanks to Bright Ideas, we know that our grant-writing is in safe hands and our staff team can focus on what we do best: designing and running programmes. Jo is highly intelligent, skilled and a quick learner with an impressive knowledge of our sector. What makes Bright Ideas different is that they are patient, flexible and accommodating to our busy diaries and the ever-changing funding landscape and priorities. I would not hesitate to recommend Bright Ideas to any charity - it's one of the best investments you could ever make of time and money, as well as a truly wonderful partnership!”
