Changing Times consultation events (February 2011)
This series of consultation events - in Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle - were aimed at capturing the VCS's experiences of dealing with the current economic and operational climate. The morning session focussed on Home Office priorities, including Police, victims, crime data and crime prevention; whilst the afternoon focussed on the MoJ's Breaking the Cycle green paper and explored some of the issues faced in engaging with the proposals contained within. Big Judges (published October 2010)
Clinks convened a seminar of European practitioners involved in the ESF Big Judges project. One of the key questions was whether sentencers were solely concerned with the delivery of judicial sanctions or were there broader concerns about the welfare of defendants, and indeed the enhanced engagement of the community, that could be incorporated in their role? Related to this was the role of public sector agencies and voluntary sector organisations in providing services to meet the needs of offenders appearing in problem-solving courts. Open Space Event: Volunteering and Mentoring Network (August 2010)
The Clinks volunteering and mentoring network open space event was an opportunity for our members and stakeholders to get together and discuss the impact of new Government ideas and future Government action on volunteering and mentoring in the Criminal Justice System (CJS). The day was designed to be led by the attendees and the agenda to be created by them. Discussion in groups led to recommendations that Clinks will take forward in responding to the forthcoming Coalition Government green paper on criminal justice, ‘The Rehabilitation Revolution’. Meeting with Crispin Blunt [minutes] (July 2010)
Clive Martin said that the sector was broad but had a strong shared belief that offenders lives could be turned around and expertise in achieving that, and welcomed the Government bringing the voluntary sector and Big Society to the fore as part of its reform programme. The sector were very keen to help shape the Green Paper and then to be integral to delivering the rehabilitation revolution. Key issues discussed at the meeting were payment by results, commissioning and youth justice. Download the report here

Open Space Event: Improving local partnerships (June 2010)
Clinks held an Open Space event in The Hub, Verwood on 8th June 2010. The event was commissioned by a multi-agency Steering Group that is currently exploring how to improve partnership working between Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations and Statutory Sector agencies in the local Criminal Justice System across Dorset, Bournemouth and Poole. The event was attended by over 50 delegates from a wide range of partner agencies. Using the Open Space process delegates created an agenda for the day in relation to the question: "How can we make Dorset safer? What is and what isn’t working – and what can we do about it?"
